"Lord, when did we see you hungry and give you food? When did we see you thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you lonely and make you welcome, or see you naked and clothe you, or ill or in prison and go to see you? The King will reply, "I assure you that whatever you did for the humblest of my brothers, you did for me."
The Mothers' Union is linked in prayer with the Dioceses of
Angola, Bo and Freetown (Sierra Leone)
Mandalay and Myitkyina (Myanmar/Burma)
and members in Europe.
During 11-15 January each year, every branch in these Dioceses join in
The Wave of Prayer.
We pray for each others' needs in the individual dioceses, the workers and members of Mothers' Union and give thanks for the love and fellowship that we share.
Mothers' Union Prayer
Loving Lord,
we thank you for your love so freely given to us all.
We pray for families around the world.
Bless the work of the Mothers' Union
as we seek to share your love
through the encouragement, strengthening
and support of marriage and family life.
Empowered by your Spirit,
may we be united in prayer and worship,
and in love and service
reach out as your hands across the world.
In Jesus' name.
Amen.
The Personal Prayer of Mary Sumner
All this day, O Lord, let me touch
as many lives as possible for thee
and every life I touch,
do thou by this spirit quicken,
whether through the word I speak,
the prayer breathe, or the life I live.
Amen.
Indoor Members’ Prayer
Loving heavenly Father,
Lord of all the world, you know the secret thoughts of every heart and hear the prayers of all.
You have chosen us to work for you and be as one in prayer.
Guide us in our prayerful task and strengthen us to do your will.
Uphold us in our weakness and our doubt that those for whom we intercede may truly come to know your healing peace and love.
We ask this in Jesus’ name, your only Son, our Lord.
Amen.
Emergency Prayer Network
The Emergency Prayer Network was established in the Diocese of London in 1984 at the suggestion of the then Diocesan President, Rosemary Johnson. Alfreda Hayes, as the Prayer and Spirituality representative at the time, was responsible for the setting up and launch of the project. The response quickly showed the need for the network and, for more than twenty years, teams have offered prayerful support to those in need. All requests for prayers are treated with complete confidentiality.
For further details, contact the London Office e-mail: mothers.union@london.anglican.org.
Retreats
Retreats are held during the year, providing an oasis of peace.
Details can be found in our calendar of events.
Continuous Prayer
Each day at noon Mothers' Union members pause to pray. You can use these daily prayers to join this 24/7 Wave of Prayer around the globe, praying for each diocese in turn. If there is a specific worker to pray for in that diocese their name is added in italics.
Midday Prayers
Jesus, Lord of life,
by the power of your word
and through your actions of love,
call us to be your disciples.
Give us strength to be different,
to stand up for justice and peace
and be signs of your reconciling love for all.
God of grace, enable your servants
to carry out your mission on earth
through the work of Mothers' Union worldwide.
Today we pray for the people and work of...
